How to add analytics to a Carrd site
Updated
Carrd sites are usually one page that links out — to a Stripe checkout, a Gumroad product, a waitlist or a booking tool. That's why outbound link tracking, which VisitTrack does automatically, is often the most useful report for a Carrd site: you see which button people actually clicked, by source.

How to install VisitTrack on Carrd
Step 1: Copy your site id
Add your Carrd domain as a site in VisitTrack and copy the snippet from the install step. Replace
SITE_IDbelow.Step 2: Add an Embed element
In the Carrd editor, click + (Add Element) and choose Embed. Set Type to Code.
Step 3: Make it a hidden head embed and paste the tag
Set Style to Hidden and the placement to Head, then paste the snippet into the code box. A hidden embed doesn't appear on the page, so it doesn't matter where the element sits in the editor.
Embed → Code → Hidden → Head<script defer data-site="SITE_ID" src="https://visitrack.app/tracker.js"></script>Step 4: Publish
Click Publish (or Publish Changes). Embeds don't run in the editor preview, so check the live site.
How to check VisitTrack is working on Carrd
- Open your published site in a normal browser tab.
- The VisitTrack live view shows an active visitor within seconds.
- Click one of your outbound buttons; it appears in the Outbound tab with the destination URL.
Does VisitTrack track Carrd page navigation?
A Carrd site is one page, and switching sections (yoursite.com/#pricing) only changes the URL fragment, so it isn't a new pageview. Your Pages tab will mostly show / — the useful questions on Carrd are where visitors came from and what they clicked.
If your Carrd has multiple real pages on a Pro plan, each page has its own path and is counted separately.
How to track custom events and goals in Carrd
Outbound clicks are tracked without any setup and feed the Outbound tab — that's every button pointing to Stripe, Gumroad, Calendly, a waitlist or your app. Carrd forms also record a form_submit event when they submit through a standard form submit; check with data-debug on the tag if a form doesn't show up.
Carrd's own buttons don't take custom attributes. For a click that stays on your site, use an Inline Embed with your own HTML, where data-vt-goal works:
<a href="#waitlist" class="button" data-vt-goal="waitlist_click">
Join the waitlist
</a>Then turn waitlist_click into a goal in Settings → Goals — or make a goal from outbound_click to count every click that leaves the page.
Revenue attribution on Carrd
If your Carrd sells through Stripe Payment Links (buy.stripe.com buttons), connect Stripe in VisitTrack's Settings → Revenue, then add a second hidden Embed (placement Body End) with the snippet below. It appends the visitor id to every Payment Link as client_reference_id, so each sale is credited to the referrer, campaign and landing page that brought the buyer in. Details: Stripe revenue attribution.
<script>
document.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded", () => {
const visitorId = localStorage.getItem("_ana_vid");
if (!visitorId) return;
document.querySelectorAll('a[href^="https://buy.stripe.com/"]').forEach((a) => {
const url = new URL(a.href);
url.searchParams.set("client_reference_id", visitorId);
a.href = url.toString();
});
});
</script>Script options you might need on Carrd
All optional — add them to the same tag. Full reference: script configuration.
| Attribute | What it does |
|---|---|
data-cookieless | Store nothing in the browser; the server derives a daily-rotating id. See cookieless mode. |
data-exclude="/app/*" | Never track these paths (comma-separated, * wildcard). Checked on every navigation. |
data-allow-local | Track on localhost and *.local — for testing an install only. |
data-debug | Log every event the script sends, and why it skipped one, to the console. |
data-auto="false" | Turn off automatic events (downloads, contact clicks, form submits, rage clicks, JS errors, 404s). |
Carrd troubleshooting
No Embed element in the menu, or no Code type
Embeds with code need Pro Standard or higher. Upgrade the site's plan.
Nothing tracked
The embed's placement must be Head (or Body End), not Inline inside a hidden section — and you need to republish after adding it.
Every visit shows only /
Expected on a one-page site: sections are #fragments, not paths. Use outbound clicks and goals to see what visitors do.
Payment Link sales aren't attributed
Check Stripe is connected in Settings → Revenue, the Payment Link snippet is on the page, and the visitor isn't in cookieless mode (there's no stored id to pass).
Carrd analytics FAQ
How do I add a tracking script to Carrd?
Add an Embed element, set Type to Code, Style to Hidden and placement to Head, paste the script tag and publish. It requires Pro Standard or higher.
Can I add VisitTrack to a free Carrd site?
No. Carrd's free plan doesn't include Embed elements, which are the only way to add a third-party script.
Can VisitTrack track button clicks on Carrd?
Yes. Clicks on buttons that link to another site are tracked automatically as outbound clicks. For on-page actions, use an inline Embed with a data-vt-goal attribute.
Can I see which traffic source made Stripe sales on my Carrd site?
Yes, with Stripe Payment Links: connect Stripe in VisitTrack and add the Payment Link snippet in a hidden embed. Each payment is then attributed to the visitor's first source.
Is VisitTrack a good fit for a Carrd landing page?
Yes for launch and waitlist pages: you get sources, UTM campaigns, outbound clicks and revenue on one screen, cookie-free in cookieless mode. Plans start at $5/month for 10k events.
