Analytics for mobile app landing pages: from visit to store click
Updated
An app's website is a funnel with an exit you can't follow: the visitor taps a badge and leaves for the App Store or Google Play. What you can measure is everything before that tap — and that's enough to compare channels, landing pages and copy.
VisitTrack records clicks to apps.apple.com and play.google.com automatically as outbound clicks, splits visitors by operating system and device, and keeps UTM campaigns and paid click ids on every visit. VisitTrack is web analytics: it has no mobile SDK, so in-app behavior needs a mobile analytics tool.
The app landing page metrics that matter
1.Store click-through rate by source
Badge clicks divided by visitors, per referrer and campaign — your web-side conversion rate and the best proxy for install intent.
2.iOS vs Android visitor mix
The OS filter shows who your marketing actually reaches. If 70% of visitors are on iOS and you launched Android-first, that's a roadmap input.
3.Desktop visitors and their next step
Desktop visitors can't install directly. Track QR-code scans or "send me a link" form submissions as goals for them.
4.Campaign and paid-click performance
UTMs, plus Google, Meta, TikTok, Microsoft and LinkedIn click ids labeled as paid, show which campaigns produce store clicks rather than bounces.
5.Page speed on mobile
Real-user LCP and INP on phones. A heavy hero video costs store clicks on cellular connections.
Questions app marketers ask
- Which campaign sends people who tap the store badge?
- Make each badge click a goal (with
data-vt-goal) and compare goal conversion per UTM campaign on the Overview. - Are Android users seeing the App Store badge first?
- Filter to OS = Android and compare the two badge goals. Then show the right badge first per platform.
- Did the TikTok campaign do anything?
- TikTok's ttclid is recognized and labeled paid; filter by that source and check store clicks per visitor.
- How many installs did the website drive?
- VisitTrack can't see installs. Use App Store Connect campaign links (pt and ct) and Google Play's referrer-based reports for installs, and VisitTrack for the visit-to-click step.
How to set up analytics for an app landing page
Install the tag
On the landing page and any support or press pages.
<script defer data-site="SITE_ID" src="https://visitrack.app/tracker.js"></script>Name each store badge
Outbound clicks are automatic; a goal name on each badge makes them easy to compare. Add an App Store Connect campaign token so installs can be matched in Apple's reports.

Turn
appstore_clickandgoogleplay_clickinto goals, then filter the Overview by OS and device.Track the desktop path
For a "text me the link" form,
form_submitis automatic; for a QR code, point it at a UTM-tagged URL such as?utm_source=qr&utm_medium=print&utm_campaign=poster.Keep in-app analytics separate
Use a mobile analytics SDK inside the app. If your backend already knows when a web visitor signs up in the app, you can send that as a server-side event.
Example: a habit-tracker app's landing page
About 15,000 monthly visitors from social ads, press and search.
| Metric | Value | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Visitors | 15,300 | 58% iOS, 27% Android, 15% desktop |
| appstore_click | 2,010 | 22.6% of iOS visitors |
| googleplay_click | 540 | 13.0% of Android visitors — Play badge sits below the fold |
| Meta ads (fbclid, paid) | 6,200 visitors, 9.8% store CTR | Below average |
| Press article referral | 1,100 visitors, 31% store CTR | Best source per visitor |
| LCP p75 on mobile | 3.4 s | Autoplay hero video |
Illustrative numbers for a typical site of this kind, not real customer data.
Android visitors convert at half the iOS rate only because their badge is below the fold — show the platform's badge first. Press coverage converts three times better than paid social; a poster video that loads after the badges would recover some of the rest.
VisitTrack vs store analytics and mobile attribution tools
Third-party details as of October 2026.
| VisitTrack | App Store Connect / Play Console | Mobile measurement partners (MMPs) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Website visits and sources | Yes | No | Partial, via their links |
| Store badge clicks | Automatic outbound + goals | No | Via tracking links |
| Installs by campaign | No | Yes (campaign links / referrers) | Yes — their core job |
| In-app events | No mobile SDK | Limited | Yes, via SDK |
| Cookie banner on the website (EU) | Not needed in cookieless mode | N/A | Typically required for web tracking |
Small app teams usually need just two things: VisitTrack for the website and the stores' own campaign reports for installs. Paid user acquisition at scale is where an MMP earns its price.
What VisitTrack costs for an app landing page
Landing pages see 1.2–1.6 pages per visit; badge clicks add a little.
| Profile | Events / month | Plan | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pre-launch waitlist | ~4,000 | Up to 10k events/mo | $5/mo or $50/yr | Under 3k visitors |
| Live app, light marketing | ~24,000 | Up to 25k events/mo | $9/mo or $90/yr | ~15k visitors |
| Paid UA campaigns | ~180,000 | Up to 250k events/mo | $29/mo or $290/yr | ~120k visitors |
Every feature is on every plan; the price only follows monthly events (pageviews, custom events and payments, counted across all your sites). Bot and AI-crawler hits and session replays are never billed. Yearly billing is ten months' price for twelve, every plan starts with a 14-day free trial with no card, and there's a one-time lifetime deal from $59.
Frequently asked questions
How do I track App Store and Google Play button clicks?
VisitTrack records clicks to apps.apple.com and play.google.com automatically as outbound clicks. Add a data-vt-goal attribute to each badge to report them as named goals by source, campaign and OS.
Can VisitTrack track app installs?
No. Installs happen in the stores. Use App Store Connect campaign links (pt and ct parameters) and Google Play Console reports for installs; VisitTrack covers the website visit and the store click.
Does VisitTrack have a mobile SDK?
No. It's web analytics. Your backend can send server-side events with POST /api/track, but in-app behavior needs a mobile analytics tool.
Can I see iOS and Android visitors separately?
Yes. Filter any view by operating system or device type.
What's a good store click-through rate for an app landing page?
It varies by traffic quality: warm traffic (press, word of mouth) often converts several times better than paid social. Compare your own sources rather than chasing a universal benchmark.
