VisitTrack vs Mixpanel

Choose Mixpanel if you need event-based product analytics — funnels, flows, retention and cohorts across a logged-in app — and you'll design a tracking plan; choose VisitTrack if you mainly need website traffic, campaign and referrer performance, and revenue attributed to channels, working from one script tag. Mixpanel's free plan covers 1M events a month.

TL;DR — the verdict

Choose Mixpanel if…

you're analyzing how users behave inside your product — feature adoption, retention curves, cohorts, group analytics — and you have the time to plan and maintain events.

Choose VisitTrack if…

you need acquisition analytics for your website: where visitors come from, which campaigns convert, and which channels produce revenue, without designing a tracking plan.

What is Mixpanel?

Mixpanel is one of the original event-based product analytics platforms. You send events with properties, and it answers questions with funnels, flows, retention, cohorts, group analytics, experiments and feature flags. It added session replay, and its official MCP server — generally available since March 2026 — exposes funnels and retention to AI assistants.

Mixpanel's free plan includes up to 1M events and 10,000 session replays a month with unlimited seats; the Growth plan is usage-based up to 20M events, and Enterprise is custom. It's at its best inside a product with identified users. As a website analytics tool, it needs more setup than a script-tag tool: pageviews and UTMs are there, but you define the events and reports.

Mixpanel vs VisitTrack pricing

Monthly list prices, as of October 2026. Mixpanel: public pricing page. VisitTrack: pricing, yearly billing gives 2 months free.

Price comparison of VisitTrack and Mixpanel at several traffic levels
Monthly trafficVisitTrackMixpanel
100k events / month$19/moFree
1M events / month$59/moFree
5M events / month$129/moGrowth, usage-based (see calculator)
  • Mixpanel's free plan (1M events, 10k replays, unlimited seats) is more generous than VisitTrack's 14-day trial.
  • Mixpanel's Growth price per event isn't listed as a flat rate; its pricing page uses a calculator, so we don't quote a figure.
  • As with any product analytics tool, the number of events depends on your tracking plan — instrumenting clicks and interactions produces many more events than pageviews.

Mixpanel vs VisitTrack: product analytics or web analytics?

Mixpanel answers questions like "what share of users who created a project in week one are still active in week six?" VisitTrack answers "which referrers, campaigns and landing pages brought the visitors who signed up and paid?" Both have funnels, but they serve different stages: Mixpanel inside the product, VisitTrack from the first visit to the first payment.

If your growth bottleneck is activation and retention inside the app, Mixpanel is the stronger tool. If it's knowing which marketing actually works, VisitTrack gets you there with less setup: one script, automatic UTM and referrer capture, and payments attributed from your provider's webhook. See revenue attribution.

Where Mixpanel is stronger

  • Deep product analytics: retention, cohorts, group analytics, flows and experiments.
  • A generous free plan with unlimited seats.
  • Mature governance features (Lexicon, data standards) for large tracking plans.
  • US and EU data residency options.

Where VisitTrack is stronger

  • Zero tracking plan: pageviews, referrers, UTMs, outbound links and Web Vitals out of the box.
  • Revenue attributed to channels from five payment providers.
  • Cookieless and EU-only hybrid modes designed in.
  • Search Console keywords and AI crawler tracking.

Mixpanel or VisitTrack: who should choose which?

Mixpanel is the better fit for

  • Product teams measuring activation, retention and feature adoption
  • B2B SaaS with group (account-level) analytics needs
  • Teams with a data person who owns the tracking plan

VisitTrack is the better fit for

  • Founders who need marketing attribution and revenue per channel
  • Small teams without time for a tracking plan
  • Marketing sites and landing pages

VisitTrack vs Mixpanel: FAQ

For website and acquisition analytics, yes; for in-product analytics like retention cohorts and group analytics, no. VisitTrack covers traffic sources, funnels, journeys, replays and revenue attribution with one script tag.

Is Mixpanel free?

Mixpanel has a free plan with up to 1M events and 10,000 session replays a month and unlimited seats, as of October 2026. Its Growth plan is usage-based up to 20M events.

Does Mixpanel attribute revenue to marketing channels?

Mixpanel offers attribution reports over events you send, including revenue properties, but doesn't document a native payment-provider connection. VisitTrack attributes payments from Stripe, Polar, Lemon Squeezy, Paddle and Razorpay to their first-touch source automatically.

Does Mixpanel have an MCP server?

Yes. Mixpanel's official MCP server has been generally available since March 2026. VisitTrack also has an official MCP server, which can read your analytics and, with write access, create goals and funnels.

Can I use Mixpanel and VisitTrack together?

Yes. Many teams use a web analytics tool for acquisition and a product analytics tool for in-app behavior. VisitTrack's identify() call can tie a visitor to your user id so you can line the two up.

Do I need a cookie banner with Mixpanel?

With default settings, generally yes in the EU, since the Mixpanel SDK persists an identifier on the device. VisitTrack's cookieless mode stores nothing on the device. This is general information, not legal advice.
