Analytics for B2B lead generation: which channels produce qualified leads
Updated
B2B buyers research for weeks across several visits and devices before filling in a form. By the time a demo request arrives, last-click analytics usually credits "direct" or a branded search — and the LinkedIn post, webinar or comparison page that started the journey gets nothing.
VisitTrack keeps each visitor's first touch (referrer, UTM source, medium, campaign, landing page) and can drop it into a hidden field of your lead form automatically with data-vt-first-touch, so the CRM record carries it. Form submits, mailto/tel clicks and demo-booking goals are tracked on the site, with days and visits to convert.
The B2B lead metrics that matter
1.Leads by first-touch channel
Demo requests and contact forms credited to the source that first brought the visitor — the input for budget decisions between LinkedIn, search, events and content.
2.Visitor-to-lead conversion by landing page
Which comparison pages, case studies and guides start journeys that end in a form. These are the pages to promote.
3.Days and visits to lead
B2B journeys are long. If the median lead takes 14 days and 4 visits, judge campaigns on a 30-day window, not the same day.
4.Pricing and demo page reach
Share of visitors who see /pricing or /demo. Low reach means the site doesn't move people toward sales.
5.Lead-to-opportunity rate by source
Joined in the CRM using the first-touch field. Some channels produce many leads and few opportunities.
Questions B2B marketing teams ask
- Is LinkedIn producing leads or just impressions?
- LinkedIn's click id (li_fat_id) is labeled as paid, and organic LinkedIn visits are grouped under social. Compare demo-request goals per source on the Overview.
- Which content starts deals?
- Filter the demo-request goal by entry page to see which pages start converting visits, and check Journeys for the paths in between.
- How do I get the lead source into HubSpot or Salesforce?
- Add a hidden input with
data-vt-first-touchto the form; it's filled with JSON containing referrer, UTMs, landing path and landing time, and is submitted with the form. - Which webinar promoted the most demos?
- Give each webinar promotion its own UTM campaign and compare demo goals per campaign.
How to set up B2B lead tracking with VisitTrack
Install the tag
Marketing site, blog and docs. Subdomains share visitors automatically.
<script defer data-site="SITE_ID" src="https://visitrack.app/tracker.js"></script>Pass first-touch data into the form
The script fills this hidden field with the visit's attribution as JSON (only if it's empty), so your form handler or CRM integration receives it with the lead. See cookieless mode → first touch.
<form action="/api/demo-request" method="post"> <input name="email" type="email" required /> <input name="company" /> <input type="hidden" name="first_touch" data-vt-first-touch /> <button type="submit" data-vt-goal="demo_request">Book a demo</button> </form>Make the demo request a primary goal
Use the button's
demo_requestevent (or the thank-you page path) as a goal and mark it primary so it leads the Overview.Build the B2B funnel
/→/pricing→/demo→demo_request, with a 30-day window to match the buying cycle.Close the loop from the CRM (optional)
Store the visitor id with the lead (
window.visitrack.visitorId()in another hidden field) and sendopportunity_createdordeal_wonfrom a CRM webhook withPOST /api/track. See server-side events.
Example: a B2B software company's quarter
A mid-market HR software vendor, ~25,000 monthly visitors, demo-led sales.
| Metric | Value | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Demo requests (quarter) | 418 | 0.56% of visitors |
| First touch: organic search | 171 leads | Comparison pages start 44% of them |
| First touch: LinkedIn ads (li_fat_id) | 96 leads | Last-touch would credit only 31 |
| First touch: webinar campaigns | 58 leads | Highest lead-to-opportunity rate in the CRM: 41% |
| Median time to lead | 16 days, 4 visits | Same-day attribution undercounts paid social |
| /pricing reach | 19% of visitors | Leads who saw pricing first: 2.3x more likely to become opportunities |
Illustrative numbers for a typical site of this kind, not real customer data.
First-touch data changes the budget conversation: LinkedIn generates three times more leads than last-click shows, and webinars produce the best opportunities. Both conclusions only emerge because the source travels with the lead into the CRM.
VisitTrack vs GA4 and marketing automation for B2B
Third-party details as of October 2026.
| VisitTrack | GA4 | Marketing automation (HubSpot, etc.) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lead source on the CRM record | Hidden data-vt-first-touch field | Needs custom capture of UTMs | Built in for their own forms and tracking |
| Attribution models | Five, side by side (for payments) | Data-driven, last click | Multi-touch on higher tiers |
| Cookie banner in the EU | Not needed in cookieless mode | Typically required | Tracking cookies; consent required |
| Account-level (company) identification | No | No | Some, via forms and add-ons |
| Setup effort | Script + one hidden field | Tags, events, consent mode | Platform rollout |
If your team already lives in HubSpot or Marketo, their tracking may cover lead source; VisitTrack is a fit when you want a lighter, privacy-friendly site analytics layer that still feeds the CRM. VisitTrack doesn't identify companies from IP addresses (it never stores IPs). See VisitTrack vs Google Analytics.
What VisitTrack costs for a B2B site
B2B sites see 2–3 pages per visit; leads add negligible events.
| Profile | Events / month | Plan | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Early-stage B2B | ~22,000 | Up to 25k events/mo | $9/mo or $90/yr | ~8k visitors |
| Mid-market vendor | ~70,000 | Up to 100k events/mo | $19/mo or $190/yr | ~25k visitors |
| Enterprise marketing site | ~900,000 | Up to 1M events/mo | $59/mo or $590/yr | Several regional sites |
Every feature is on every plan; the price only follows monthly events (pageviews, custom events and payments, counted across all your sites). Bot and AI-crawler hits and session replays are never billed. Yearly billing is ten months' price for twelve, every plan starts with a 14-day free trial with no card, and there's a one-time lifetime deal from $59.
Frequently asked questions
How do I track lead sources for B2B forms?
Track the form submission as a goal and add a hidden input with the data-vt-first-touch attribute. VisitTrack fills it with the visitor's first-touch referrer, UTM source, medium, campaign and landing page, so the source is saved with the lead.
Can I pass UTM parameters into HubSpot or Salesforce?
Yes. The hidden first-touch field is submitted with the form like any other field, so your form integration can map it to CRM properties.
Does VisitTrack identify which companies visit my site?
No. VisitTrack never stores IP addresses and doesn't do reverse-IP company lookup. People are only identified when you call identify() with your own user id.
How does B2B attribution work with long sales cycles?
In standard mode the visitor id persists, so a lead weeks after the first visit is still credited to the first touch. In cookieless mode, the first-touch field captured at form time preserves it.
Can I track closed deals?
Yes, as server-side events from your CRM's webhook, if you saved the visitor id with the lead. Revenue from deals invoiced outside a supported checkout isn't attributed on the Revenue tab.
Does VisitTrack track LinkedIn ads?
Yes. Visits with LinkedIn's li_fat_id click id are labeled as paid traffic from LinkedIn; add UTMs for campaign-level detail.
