VisitTrack vs DataFast
Updated
TL;DR — the verdict
Choose DataFast if…
you sell through Shopify, WooCommerce or Dodo Payments, you want MRR, LTV and churn next to your traffic, you run Meta Ads and want ROAS, or you'd like a native mobile app and a one-click Plausible import.
Choose VisitTrack if…
you want to watch session replays and click heatmaps of the visitors who paid (or didn't), track several sites with a team without paying for a higher tier, keep data on EU infrastructure, or start at $5/month instead of $9.
What is DataFast?
DataFast (datafa.st) is a hosted analytics tool built by Marc Lou, the indie maker behind ShipFast. It began as a lightweight web analytics product and was deliberately repositioned as a revenue attribution tool: its homepage pitch is "find out which marketing channels drive your revenue," and it reports more than 26,000 users. Its audience is founders, startups and small teams — the same people VisitTrack is built for.
Its strengths are real. DataFast connects to Stripe, Lemon Squeezy, Polar, Paddle, Shopify, WooCommerce, Dodo Payments and others, backfills existing payments, and shows revenue, MRR, LTV, churn and revenue per visitor. It ships fast — the 2026 changelog has added a cookieless script, Meta Ads ROAS, AI crawler tracking, a CLI, an OAuth MCP server and a mobile app. What it doesn't do is show you what visitors did on the page: there's no session replay and no heatmaps.

DataFast vs VisitTrack pricing
Monthly list prices, as of October 2026. DataFast: public pricing page. VisitTrack: pricing, yearly billing gives 2 months free.
| Monthly traffic | VisitTrack | DataFast |
|---|---|---|
| 10k events / month | $5/mo | Starter $9 · Growth $19 |
| 100k events / month | $19/mo | Starter $19 · Growth $39 |
| 500k events / month | $39/mo | Starter $49 · Growth $99 |
| 1M events / month | $59/mo | Starter $69 · Growth $139 |
| 10M events / month | $179/mo | Starter $169 · Growth $339 |
- DataFast's Starter plan covers 1 website and 1 team member; Growth raises that to 30 websites and 30 members and adds full X and Reddit mentions. VisitTrack includes unlimited websites and team members at every price.
- Both tools give 2 months free on yearly billing and a 14-day trial with no credit card.
- At 10M events DataFast Starter ($169) is slightly cheaper than VisitTrack ($179) — if you only have one site, that's a fair point in its favor. From 10k to 1M events VisitTrack is cheaper than both DataFast plans.
- VisitTrack also sells a one-time lifetime deal while seats last; DataFast doesn't document one.
What's the difference between DataFast and VisitTrack?
Both products answer the same question — which referrer, campaign and landing page brought the people who paid — and both are hosted, script-tag tools aimed at indie founders. Both have funnels, goals, visitor journeys, a live globe, Search Console keywords, public dashboards, a REST API, a CLI, an MCP server and AI crawler tracking. If you only compared the homepages, you could easily think they're the same product.
The differences are in three places. Behavior: VisitTrack includes session replays and click heatmaps, so from a paying visitor's profile you can watch the session that converted; DataFast has neither. Limits: DataFast's Starter plan is one site and one seat, while VisitTrack has no site or seat limits on any plan. Breadth of revenue: DataFast integrates with more payment platforms and computes subscription metrics like MRR, LTV and churn; VisitTrack focuses on attribution — revenue by channel, revenue per visitor, and how many days and visits each customer took to convert.
How does revenue attribution work in DataFast vs VisitTrack?
DataFast connects to your payment provider with an API key (a restricted key for Stripe), creates webhooks where possible and backfills existing payments. To tie a payment to a visitor, you pass DataFast's visitor and session cookies as checkout metadata, let its script detect a checkout id on your success page, or call datafast("payment", { email }).
VisitTrack uses the provider's webhook, verified against its signing secret. You pass VisitTrack's anonymous visitor id at checkout — client_reference_id for Stripe, a custom-data field for Polar, Lemon Squeezy, Paddle and Razorpay — and each payment inherits that visitor's first touch: first referrer, first UTM source, medium and campaign, and first landing page. Refunds (including partial ones) are subtracted automatically, retried deliveries are deduplicated, and each payment also writes a payment_completed event you can use as the last step of a funnel. See revenue attribution.
One practical difference: VisitTrack documents its model as first-touch, while DataFast's docs describe support for long-term and multi-touch journeys without naming a crediting model. If you need to explain your numbers to a co-founder or investor, check that each tool's model matches how you think about acquisition.
Cookies, consent banners and where your data lives
Neither tool is cookie-free by default. DataFast's standard script sets first-party cookies for the visitor and session (its docs say you may need a cookie banner), and its cookieless script, launched in April 2026, uses a daily-rotating server-side hash instead. VisitTrack's standard mode keeps an anonymous first-party id, and its cookieless mode stores nothing on the device, also with a daily-rotating hash.
Both vendors are candid that cookieless tracking weakens long-range attribution, because a visitor returning after 24 hours looks new. VisitTrack offers two ways around it: hybrid mode, which is cookieless only for visitors in the EU/EEA, UK and Switzerland and keeps a first-party id everywhere else, and a first-touch hand-off where your own signup form keeps the original source and sends it back with the signup.
On data location, DataFast's DPA says most of its infrastructure is outside the EU, including in the United States, with transfers covered by subprocessors' SCCs. VisitTrack stores analytics in its own PostgreSQL databases on EU infrastructure. For EU founders, that can shorten the privacy-policy conversation.
Where DataFast is stronger
- More payment integrations: Shopify, WooCommerce and Dodo Payments natively, plus a Payments API for anything else. VisitTrack supports Stripe, Polar, Lemon Squeezy, Paddle and Razorpay.
- Subscription metrics: MRR, LTV, churn, and goals that fire automatically on trial start, upgrade, downgrade and cancellation.
- Paid ads: Meta Ads spend and ROAS next to attributed revenue.
- Mobile: native iOS and Android apps for the dashboard, and a React Native/Expo SDK for web-to-app funnels.
- Migration: a built-in Plausible importer. VisitTrack's import API takes any tool's data, but you convert it to NDJSON yourself.
- Social mentions: X and Reddit mentions on Growth. VisitTrack's mentions cover Hacker News.
Where VisitTrack is stronger
- Session replays and click heatmaps included, sampled and with every input masked — no second tool to install next to your analytics.
- Unlimited websites and team members on every plan, with per-site access for teammates. DataFast's Starter plan is 1 site and 1 seat.
- EU infrastructure, plus a hybrid mode that applies cookieless tracking only where ePrivacy consent rules bite.
- Bot filtering that scores every visit at ingest and again when it ends, shows you the reason each bot was flagged, and never bills you for bots. AI crawler tracking has no separate request cap.
- Razorpay support for founders selling in India.
- A lower entry price — $5/month for 10k events versus $9 — and a lifetime deal.
DataFast or VisitTrack: who should choose which?
DataFast is the better fit for
- Shopify and WooCommerce stores that want revenue attribution without code
- Subscription SaaS that wants MRR, LTV and churn in the analytics tool
- Founders running Meta Ads who need ROAS next to organic channels
- Anyone who checks numbers mostly from a phone app
VisitTrack is the better fit for
- Founders who want to see why visitors didn't convert, with replays and heatmaps
- Indie hackers running several products, or small teams who share a dashboard
- EU-based businesses that prefer EU hosting and a cookieless or hybrid setup
- Anyone selling through Razorpay, or starting small at $5/month
How to switch from DataFast to VisitTrack
- Create a VisitTrack site and add the script tag next to DataFast's — both can run at once. See installation.
- Pick a tracking mode in Settings → General: standard, cookieless or hybrid.
- In Settings → Revenue, connect your provider's webhook and pass VisitTrack's visitor id at checkout, alongside DataFast's metadata if you're running both. Provider guides: Stripe, Polar, Lemon Squeezy, Paddle, Razorpay.
- Recreate your DataFast goals as VisitTrack events — visitrack('signup') — then rebuild your funnels; attributed payments already appear as a payment_completed step.
- For history, DataFast's DPA says it doesn't provide raw event exports, so use its API or CLI for what you can get and load event-level data through the historical import; otherwise keep DataFast read-only for past periods.
- Run both for one full billing cycle, compare attributed revenue per channel, then remove DataFast's script and webhook.
VisitTrack vs DataFast: FAQ
Is VisitTrack a good DataFast alternative?
Yes, if you want revenue attribution plus session replays, heatmaps and unlimited sites in one tool. VisitTrack credits each payment from Stripe, Polar, Lemon Squeezy, Paddle or Razorpay to its first-touch referrer, campaign and landing page, like DataFast does for its providers. DataFast remains the better pick for Shopify, WooCommerce, MRR/LTV metrics or Meta Ads ROAS.
Is DataFast cheaper than VisitTrack?
Usually not, as of October 2026. At 10k events DataFast starts at $9/month (Starter) versus VisitTrack's $5; at 100k it's $19 or $39 versus $19; at 1M it's $69 or $139 versus $59. DataFast Starter is slightly cheaper at 10M events ($169 vs $179), but it's limited to one site and one seat.
Does DataFast have session replay or heatmaps?
No. DataFast doesn't offer session replays or heatmaps as of October 2026. VisitTrack includes both on every plan: opt-in, sampled session replays with every form field masked, and click heatmaps.
Is DataFast cookieless?
Only with its cookieless script. DataFast's default script sets first-party cookies, and its docs say you may need a cookie banner; the cookieless script launched in April 2026 avoids that at the cost of weaker long-range attribution. VisitTrack has the same two options plus a hybrid mode that is cookieless only in the EU/EEA, UK and Switzerland.
Which payment providers does each tool support?
DataFast supports Stripe, Lemon Squeezy, Polar, Paddle, Shopify, WooCommerce, Dodo Payments and more, plus a Payments API. VisitTrack supports Stripe, Polar, Lemon Squeezy, Paddle and Razorpay through verified webhooks, and its server events API can record anything else as a custom event.
Where is my data stored in DataFast vs VisitTrack?
DataFast's DPA states that most of its infrastructure is outside the EU, including the United States. VisitTrack stores analytics data in its own PostgreSQL databases on EU infrastructure and never sells it or shares it with ad networks.
Can I move my DataFast history to VisitTrack?
Partly. DataFast's DPA says it doesn't provide raw event log exports, so a full event-level migration isn't possible; you can pull what its API and CLI expose. VisitTrack's historical import accepts pageviews and events with their original timestamps whenever you have them at event level.
Do both tools have an MCP server for AI assistants?
Yes. DataFast launched an MCP server in July 2026 and added OAuth in September 2026. VisitTrack's MCP server lets Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor query your analytics and, with write access, create goals and funnels. See API, CSV and MCP.
