Umami vs Plausible for privacy and GDPR

Both are cookie-free, collect no personal data and are commonly run without a consent banner. Self-hosting either removes third-party processors entirely. On their managed clouds, Plausible keeps everything in Germany, while Umami Cloud offers a choice of US and EU regions — choose EU if you want the same posture as Plausible.

Umami vs Plausible pricing at three traffic levels

Umami prices by events with a free tier and per-event overage; Plausible prices by pageviews in fixed tiers. Monthly, October 2026:

Umami vs Plausible monthly price by traffic level, as of October 2026
Umami100K/mo: $0 (Hobby, 1 site) · $20 (Pro)1M/mo: $20 (Pro)10M/mo: $200 (Business) · ≈ $290 (Pro)
Plausible100K/mo: $19 Starter · $39 Business1M/mo: $69 Starter · $139 Business10M/mo: $169 Starter · $339 Business

Umami counts every stored event property as a billable event, so property-heavy tracking costs more than these figures suggest. Plausible yearly billing is 10× monthly; Umami has no yearly discount.

Self-hosting Umami vs Plausible

Umami's self-hosted stack is light: a Node.js app with PostgreSQL. It's one of the easiest analytics tools to run on a small VPS or a PaaS. Plausible Community Edition runs via Docker Compose with PostgreSQL and ClickHouse; it handles large volumes well but needs more memory, and it's released about twice a year, so it lags the cloud. Plausible CE also leaves out funnels, journeys, ecommerce revenue goals and SSO.

Who each one is for

Umami suits developers, startups and high-traffic sites that want low cost, permissive licensing and more analytics depth per dollar. Plausible suits businesses and EU organizations that want a reliable, EU-only managed service with GA import and Search Console, and are happy to pay for it.

Moving between Umami and Plausible

Plausible imports from GA4 and CSV; Umami Cloud's import (via its team, Pro and up) accepts self-hosted Umami exports or CSV. There's no direct importer between the two documented on either side, so most switches start fresh after a parallel-run period, keeping a CSV export of the old history.
